Risiko Diabetes Mellitus Pasca COVID-19

Diabetes telah dikaitkan erat dengan COVID-19. Beberapa studi dan kasus telah melaporkan prognosis COVID-19 yang lebih buruk dan tingkat mortalitas yang lebih tinggi pada pasien diabetes mellitus. Begitu juga sebaliknya, COVID-19 diduga dapat meningkatkan risiko seseorang untuk mengalami diabetes. Hal ini didukung oleh beberapa studi yang menemukan terjadinya diabetes onset baru pada pasien yang telah menderita COVID-19 sebelumnya.

Akan tetapi, masih diperlukan penelitian lebih lanjut untuk mengonfirmasi apakah COVID-19 dapat secara langsung mengakibatkan diabetes onset baru, atau hanya memperparah kondisi diabetes yang sebenarnya sudah ada tetapi tidak diketahui sebelumnya.[1,2]
