Penapisan Fungsi Tiroid pada Gangguan Depresi Mayor

Telah ada beberapa bukti yang menunjukkan bahwa gangguan tiroid berkaitan dengan munculnya depresi. Meski penyebab gangguan depresi mayor belum diketahui sepenuhnya, terdapat studi yang menunjukkan ada kaitan langsung depresi dengan abnormalitas sistem endokrin, khususnya aksis hipotalamus-pituitari-tiroid (HPT). Hipotiroid subklinis juga telah diduga berkaitan langsung dengan perubahan fungsi otak pada pasien depresi.[1-7]

Gangguan depresi mayor telah dilaporkan terjadi 4 kali lebih tinggi pada pasien hipotiroid. Ada pula studi lain yang melaporkan bahwa depresi dialami sekurangnya 20-40% pasien dengan hipotiroid. Gejala hipotiroid subklinis juga dilaporkan pada 4-40% pasien dengan gejala depresi.[1,3,4,6-10]
